If you check out the RRD directory hierarchy, there are three subdirs in
there: "aggregate", "individual" and "p2p". Unless the accounting
perimeter is defined as being on all edge ports, the RRDs in p2p will be
incomplete, and the RRDs in aggregate and individual both will be wrong in
all cases.
At the moment, the code doesn't use the aggregate / individual rrds, but we
plan to change this in the future, so we don't want to add code to the
project now, which is guaranteed to produce incorrect results in all cases
in the future.
Sflow capable 1G switches are not expensive. If you need sflow support,
then we'd suggest you get the hardware which is going to make it work
correctly.
FWIW, I've talked to a bunch of Cisco people about adding sflow support to
their product lines, or at least to explain why there are many situations
where sflow is a better tool to use than netflow. Sad to say, there is
strong resistance to the idea, very little of which is based on impartial
technical analysis :-/
