We are using it at MINAP with good results:
https://manager.minap.it/weathermap/weathermap.html

The base image is generated with LaTeX and tikz (I can share it if 
anybody wants an example) so adding new links is easy.
The annoying part is that the weathermap configuration is basically 
edited by trial and error by looking every time at the generated image.
