Thanks Pete for the detail.
I think this proves Nick's point that everyone has their favourite
operating system.
(1) doesn't bother me; (2) doesn't affect me as I don't use snaps and
have never found I needed to; (3) sounds like something that could be
solved but fortunately I've not used pxe boot for a server in ~15+
years; (4) ubuntu-minimal (*) is still a thing and the automated install
scripts will work from that no problem.
I think the tl;dr for everyone is: feel free to roll your own. IXP
Manager is a "LAMP" stack application but the (L)inux can just as easily
be whatever-BSD and the (A)pache can be Nginx/Lighttpd. The only hard
requires are the version specified of PHP and MySQL.

(*) honestly, the minimal install is no minimal I often end up running
'unminimize' in frustration on dev / local boxes.
